Visa application centre

For a private application centre where every applicant has a slot, yet the hall fills because nobody knows whether submission, biometrics or the cashier is next. An example of how such a centre could call applicants to its counters; Line Me Up decides nothing about an application and collects nothing.

The day

Hours, the TV and the poster

  • Opening hours

Monday to Friday, 8 am to 3 pm; Saturday and Sunday closed.

Add public holidays of both countries as closed days. Applicants who booked on them are listed so you can cancel or keep each booking.

  • TV display × 2

The token being called and the counter or booth to go to, for every line.

One in the main hall, one outside the biometrics booths.

  • QR poster

At the entrance and the reception desk, for walk-ins to passport return.

Tips

  • Submission is bookings only.

The Submission line takes no walk-ins. A booked time holds one applicant for each desk that calls from the line, so three submission counters take three applicants a slot. An applicant presses I am here on arrival, inside the arrival window; the supervisor can check in one whose phone has died.

    How it works →
  • Run submission and biometrics as one visit.

The process takes the applicant from the counter to biometrics, through the services counter first when the officer chooses. Each step gives them its own token, and the applicant's page says where to go.

    How it works →
  • Remind applicants in the app.

A booked applicant gets a reminder in the customer app's inbox the evening before and an hour before. Tell them to keep their page open; do not promise a text message.

    How it works →
  • Put the screens where people sit.

A second TV outside the biometrics booths shows the same tokens, so applicants waiting there see their number.

    How it works →
  • Find the hours to add a booth.

Insights' Waits page, filtered to Biometrics, shows the average wait by the hour people joined, so you can see when the second booth is needed.
