Waiting list for restaurants

The waiting list, off the clipboard

The host adds guests to the waiting list and hands them a token they follow on their own phone. Their page shows how many are ahead and an estimated wait, and tells them when it is their turn, so they can wait outside instead of around your host.

A clipboard at the door answers nobody

  • How long for a table?
  • Were we before them?
  • Can we wait outside?
  • Did you call our name?

So guests crowd the door, and the host calls names over the noise.

Today's list

  1. Nikhil, 4
  2. Sara, 2
  3. Ajay, 6
  4. Leela, 3
  5. Ben, 2
  6. Rosh, 5
The queue today: a list only the desk can see.

One button moves the whole room.

  1. Waiting. TW 014 is next in Table waitlist. Nikhil's phone shows nobody ahead.
  2. Call Next. The board turns amber, the TV calls TW 014 to Table 6, and Nikhil's phone says it is their turn.
  3. They're here. Serving: green on the board, and the phone says they are being seen.
  4. Complete. Done. TW 015 moves to the top, and every phone behind it counts one fewer.

This is the desk's button. Press it, or keep scrolling.

Pre-filled for restaurants.

On a busy night the host keeps the list, answers “how long?” at the door and calls names over the noise. A table and a counter order are two different waits, so setup starts you with a line for each.

What setup fills in for “Café or restaurant”

  • Counter orders walk-in 5 min
  • Table waitlist walk-in 15 min

Sign up from this page and setup opens with “Café or restaurant” already picked, so these appear — you can still pick another. Rename, re-time or delete any of them. Free includes three lines and walk-ins. Basic (₹999 a month billed yearly, ex-GST) includes ten lines and booked times. Compare plans →

Why restaurants use a waiting list

  • Two lines, two honest estimates.

The table waiting list and counter orders each have their own time, so somebody waiting at the counter is not quoted the wait for a table.

  • Not at the door when called?

Call again calls them once more without moving anyone. Still not there? Mark a no-show, or let the grace time you set do it, and call the next guest.

  • A token on the TV.

Pair a TV and it shows the token being called, with a chime and the token read aloud, never a name. Useful at a counter where everyone is waiting for a number.

  • A waiting list, not a till.

Line Me Up keeps the line and calls the token. It does not take orders or payments or manage your tables, so it sits beside whatever you use for those.

Their place, on their phone.

  • Their page shows their token, how many are ahead and roughly how long. It updates by itself, and tells them when it is their turn.
  • Running late? They tap 5, 10 or 15 minutes and keep their place.
  • Their page is available in eight languages, including हिन्दी, മലയാളം and தமிழ்.
