Posters, links and QR codes

Where to get your QR poster and your link, how to print them, and exactly what happens when a customer points their phone at the code.

Your customers join your lines from their own phones. They do not install anything: they scan a QR code, or open a link, and your page opens in their phone's browser. From there they choose what they came for, join, and see their place in the line.

Line Me Up gives you four ways in, all leading to the same page or to a ticket:

  • A printed poster with your QR code, for the door, the reception counter or the waiting area.
  • Your link, to put on your website, your social pages, or in a message you send yourself.
  • A QR code on a TV display in your waiting area, if you have one.
  • A QR code and a printed slip per token, when somebody at the desk adds a visit for a customer who is standing there.

Get your QR poster#

Who Owner

Where to find it Staff app Settings QR code and poster

The poster lives in Settings, under QR code and poster (“For where people arrive”). Only an owner can open Settings.

  1. Open Settings from the sidebar (in the Business group).
  2. Open QR code and poster.
  3. Under Your QR code you see the code, your link written out beneath it, and a picture of the poster as it will print.
  4. Press Download poster (PDF, A5). The button says Making the poster… for a moment, then your browser saves the PDF.

The poster has, from top to bottom:

  • your business's name;
  • Scan to join the line;
  • the QR code;
  • your link, written out, for anyone whose camera will not scan;
  • two short lines of help: “Point your phone's camera at the code.” and “No app to install — you'll see your place in the line.”

The poster's words are in your business's language — the default language an owner sets in Settings — so a Malayalam business gets a Malayalam poster. See Languages and the words on screen.

Just the code, for your own design#

If you want to put the code on your own leaflet, menu card or sign, press QR code only (SVG). It saves the bare code as an SVG image, which stays sharp at any size — from a sticker to a banner.

When the poster will not download#

  • “The poster could not be made.” — try again. If it keeps happening, try another browser.
  • “This browser cannot draw the poster.” — the poster is made inside your browser. Use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
  • “We could not load your code. Please try again.” — the code itself did not load; reload the page.

The poster is made for A5 paper. It also prints on A4 at full size — choose “actual size” or “fit to page” in your printer's settings, whichever keeps the whole page.

Before you put it up:

  1. Print one copy.
  2. Scan it with your own phone from where a customer would stand. Your page should open in the browser.
  3. Check your business's name at the top of the page that opens is right.
  4. Then print the rest.

Good places for it:

  • At the door, at eye level, so people can join before they reach the desk.
  • On the reception counter, for people who walk straight up.
  • In the waiting area, where people sit — especially if there is a long walk back to the desk.

Who Owner

Where to find it Staff app Settings Business

The QR code is your link drawn as a picture. Your link looks like go.linemeup.in/b/your-name, with your own name at the end. You chose its last part when you signed up, and you can see it in two places:

  • under the code in QR code and poster, written out in full;
  • in the Business section of Settings, as Your link.

Copy it from there into your website's “Book” or “Join the line” button, your social profile, or a message you send customers yourself.

You can change Your link in the Business section of Settings — for example after renaming the business. As the screen says: “If you change it, your old link and any QR codes you have printed keep working.” An old address goes on opening your page, and it is never handed to another business. You do not need to reprint.

If the link you want is in use, you will see “That link is already taken. Try another.” For more on the Business section, see Settings.

Being in the directory is separate#

Line Me Up has a directory where customers can find places by name, category and city. Whether you appear there is your choice: the switch Show us in the Line Me Up directory is in the Business section of Settings, and it is off until you turn it on. Your poster and your link work either way. When you are listed, See your listing in the directory, under your QR code, opens it.

What a customer sees when they scan#

Who Customer

The customer points their phone's camera at the code and taps the link that appears. Your page opens in their browser — no app store, no download.

On the customer's phone:

  1. Your page opens, with your name, whether you are open now, and Directions.
  2. Under Choose what you need, they pick what they came for. Each choice shows roughly how long the wait is, such as “About 20 min from now”.
  3. They press Join — or Join & book if they also chose a time for something that is booked.
  4. The first time, they confirm their phone number. It is how they get back to their place if they lose the page.
  5. Their ticket opens: their token, their place in the line, and an estimate of the wait. The page updates itself as the line moves, and tells them when it is their turn and where to go.

A few things a customer may see instead:

  • Closed now and when you open — outside your opening hours, a phone cannot join a walk-in line. The desk can still add people.
  • Not taking new customers — on a line you have paused.
  • Full for today — on a line that has reached its limit of people waiting at once.
  • Nothing to join here right now — when no line takes customers online at the moment; it tells them to ask at the desk.
  • You are in this line and See your place — if they already joined.

For the customer's side in full, see Finding a place and joining and Waiting, your ticket and alerts.

Give a customer a QR code at the desk#

Who Owner, Manager, Staff

Where to find it Staff app Live board Add visit

When somebody walks up to the desk, or phones in, a person at the desk can add their visit for them. Owners and managers do this from Add visit at the top of the Live board or the Waitlist; staff with the Front desk ability can too. Once the visit is added, each new token gets its own QR code, big enough to scan across the counter.

  1. Press Add visit and add the customer's visit as usual.
  2. Below the new token, the sheet shows a QR code, the token, the place to go if the desk has a Where to go label, and a prompt: “Ask: do you have your phone with you? Scan to follow the token — no sign-in.”
  3. Turn the screen towards the customer and let them scan it. Their ticket opens on their phone straight away, without signing in, and follows their place in the line.

How to add a visit is covered in full in The Waitlist and The Live Board.

Not everyone has a phone with them. Under the codes, press Print slip. Your browser's print window opens with a small slip for each new token, sized for a 58 mm receipt printer. Each slip has:

  • your business's name;
  • the token, in large type;
  • where to go, if the desk has a label;
  • today's date;
  • the QR code, and “Scan to follow your token.”

Someone can scan the slip later, or hand it to a relative to follow for them. Without a phone, the token on the slip is what they listen and look for when they are called.

A QR code on your TV#

If you have a TV display, its page can include a Join QR block: your join code on the screen, with a short caption such as “Scan to join the line”. It opens the same page as your poster, so people who walked in can join from their seats. See TV displays.
