Getting started
Welcome to Line Me Up
Everything Line Me Up does, explained for the people who use it: owners, managers, the team at the desk, and the customers who wait. Start here to see how the pieces fit, then jump to the part you need.
What Line Me Up is#
Line Me Up is a virtual line for any place where people wait: a clinic or hospital, a salon or spa, a car wash or garage, a café, a service counter. Instead of standing in a room, people take a place in a line from their phone — or at your front desk — and watch it move. When it is their turn, the desk calls their token and they come over.
For you, it is one screen at each desk with one main button, a live picture of every line and every desk, and an honest record of every visit afterwards. For your customers, it is a page on their phone that says where they are and what to do next. Nobody has to install anything from an app store: Line Me Up runs in the web browser on phones, tablets, computers and TVs.
The one loop: Call Next, serve, Complete#
Everything in Line Me Up is built around three presses at the desk. Everything else either sets up this loop (your lines, services, desks, team and hours) or tells you how it went (the Visits report and Insights).
At a desk, every visit goes like this:
- Press Call Next. Line Me Up picks the right person — priority first, bookings at their time, then everyone else in order — and their phone page says It is your turn.
- When they reach you, press They're here. Their page now says You are being seen.
- When you are finished, press Complete. The visit is counted as served, and you are ready to call the next person.
If someone is called and does not come, the desk shows a countdown and marks them No-show when the time runs out (or the desk presses No-show itself). Actions happen at once, most with a short Undo instead of an “Are you sure?” question, so nobody at a desk is ever stopped by a pop-up.
The three places Line Me Up runs#
| Where | Who uses it | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| The customer app go.linemeup.in | Anyone who waits | Find a place, see how long the wait is, join a line or book a time, then follow your place live. Opened from your QR poster, a link you share, or the directory. |
| The staff app business.linemeup.in | Owners, managers and staff | The desk screen (the Workboard, opened with Work my desk), the Live board, the Waitlist, the reports, and every setting. |
| The TV display business.linemeup.in/display | Everyone in your waiting area | A TV paired to your business with a short code. It shows “Now calling” with the token and where to go, plays a chime and reads the token aloud. It never shows a name. |
The three stay in step on their own: when a desk calls someone, the customer's page, the Live board, the Waitlist and the TV all change within seconds, without anyone refreshing.
Who does what: the three roles#
Everyone on your team has one of three roles. There is no role builder: the three are fixed, so that anyone can tell at a glance what a colleague can do.
| Role | Typically | Can |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Whoever runs the business | Everything. Only an owner can open Settings (your business's details, hours, clock, poster, billing) and add, edit or switch off people on Team. A business always keeps at least one active owner. |
| Manager | A floor manager, a head of department | Runs the day for the lines the owner gives them: the Live board, the Waitlist, Visits and Insights, Desks, Lines, Services, Processes and Displays. On Team, a manager can tick the abilities for the staff on their lines and record their leave. When the owner gives a manager certain lines, that manager sees only those, and that is enforced by the server, not just hidden on screen. |
| Staff | Whoever serves at a desk | Works their desk on the Workboard: call, serve, complete, send on, take a break. They can also look at the Waitlist for their own lines, without phone numbers and without changing anything — apart from what an ability below gives them. |
Owners and managers can serve at a desk too: Work my desk opens the same desk screen staff use.
Three abilities for chosen staff#
Some staff do more than serve. Rather than invent a fourth role, an owner or manager can tick up to three abilities on a staff member, and each applies only to that person's own lines:
- Front desk — adds visits and books callers a time from Work my desk, checks in bookings and moves people up or down on the Waitlist. The receptionist's job.
- Above everyone — called Emergency in a clinic. Lets them put someone at the very front of a line and alert the desk that will see them.
- Run desks — runs the desks nobody signs in to (courts, lanes, machines) from one device, and calls people to them.
Get started#
Where to begin depends on who you are.
If you own the business#
- Create your account at business.linemeup.in/signup with your business name, your name, email and a password, and press Create account.
- Go through the four setup steps — Your place, Your lines, Your people and You're live. Each step starts filled in for your kind of place, so you can change what is wrong and move on.
- Hand each person on your team the temporary password shown on the last step. It is shown only once.
- Print your QR poster and put it where people arrive.
The full walk-through is Set up your business. After that, read Key ideas and words so the rest of the guide makes sense.
If you manage the floor#
- Log in at business.linemeup.in/login with the email and password your owner gave you, and press Log in.
- You land on the Live board: every line and desk you look after, live. Read The Live Board.
- Use the Waitlist to find a person, add a walk-in or take a booking. Read The Waitlist.
If you serve at a desk#
- Log in at business.linemeup.in/login. Staff go straight to the desk screen.
- Change the temporary password you were given, from your account.
- Press Start my shift, then Call Next. Read Serving at a desk: the Workboard.
If you are a customer#
- Scan the QR poster at the place, open a link they shared, or look them up at go.linemeup.in. You can look around without signing in.
- Choose what you came for and press Join. You confirm your phone number once, then land on your own live page.
- Keep the page open, or come back to it from Visits. It says how many people are ahead of you and changes to It is your turn when the desk calls you.
The customer pages start at Finding a place and joining.
Words this guide uses#
The guide uses the same words as the product, and they are worth knowing before you read on:
- Line — where people wait, in order. Each line gives out its own tokens.
- Service — what someone comes for: a haircut, a consultation, a car wash.
- Desk — where people are served: a counter, a chair, a room, a bay.
- Visit — one person's whole time with you, every step of it.
- Token — the code a person holds in a line, whose last part the desk calls out.
- Booking — a place at a chosen time, made ahead. A walk-in joins on the day.
Each is explained properly, with every status a visit can have, on Key ideas and words.
Line Me Up in your language#
Both apps and the TV speak eight languages: English, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Spanish, Japanese, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Each person chooses their own, so a receptionist can work in Tamil while the customer they are serving reads their page in Malayalam. A clinic sees a few words of its own, such as Emergency and Review. See Languages and the words on screen.
This guide is written in English and quotes the English labels. If your screens are in another language, the buttons are in the same places.
How this guide is organised#
The guide follows the order you are likely to need it: the ideas first, then what customers see, then the desk, the day, and the setup behind it. Use the search box at the top, or go straight to a section:

Reading a task#
Every task in the guide has the same shape, so you can skim to what matters:
- Who — the roles that can do it. If your role is not listed, the button is not on your screen; ask your owner or manager.
- Plan — shown only for a feature your plan decides, with a link to Pricing.
- Where to find it — the app, then the menu items to press, in order.
- Then numbered steps, with button names written exactly as they appear on screen.
