Supermarket billing counters
For a supermarket where, on a festival weekend, every billing counter has ten full trolleys behind it and shoppers stand in line instead of finishing their shopping. Line Me Up calls each shopper to a counter; the billing and the payment stay on your own till.

The day
Hours, the TV and the poster
-
Opening hours
Every day, 8 am to 10 pm.
Set special hours for Diwali, Pongal or Eid weekends when the store stays open late, and mark the annual stock-taking day as closed so nobody joins a line that day. Special hours on a date beat that weekday's usual hours.
-
TV display × 2
The token being called and the counter to go to, such as Counter 3 or Returns desk.
One above the billing counters, where shoppers coming down the aisles can see it, and one by the fresh produce at the back of the store.
-
QR poster
At the entrance beside the trolleys, on the end of each aisle near the billing counters, and at the Pickup counter, so a shopper can take a billing token with half a trolley and keep shopping.
Tips
-
Take a token at the door, finish shopping, then bill.
A shopper scans the poster, picks Regular billing and keeps filling the trolley. Their page updates itself with the token and its place, and when a counter calls them, the page and the TV both say which counter to go to.
How it works → -
Open more counters from the Live Board at peak.
When the billing line grows, a cashier starts a shift at Counter 3 or Counter 4, or the manager presses Run desk on that counter's row and Start a shift here. Only desks on shift count toward the wait, so the estimate shortens as soon as a counter opens.
How it works → -
Share Counter 1 between Express and Regular.
Counter 1 calls from both lines, and Calls from on the Live Board sets the share, for example mostly Express. When nobody is waiting in Express, every call comes from Regular, so the counter is never idle.
How it works → -
Move a full trolley out of Express.
If someone with forty items took an Express token, the manager opens them on the Waitlist and uses Move to another line. They join the end of Regular billing, so tell them before you move them.
How it works → -
Mark an elderly shopper as priority.
The owner, the manager or the associate with the Front desk ability can mark a visit priority, while adding the shopper or later on the Waitlist. A priority visit is called ahead of everyone in the line without it.
How it works → -
Take a meal break with a reason.
A cashier pauses their counter with the reason "Meal" and a time to come back. Shoppers waiting see the delay, not the reason, and the other counters keep calling.
