Sports courts and swimming lanes

For a sports club with a few badminton and squash courts and a lap pool, where the evening slots are fought over on a phone group and walk-in players hover by the court door hoping someone does not turn up.

The day

Hours, the TV and the poster

  • Opening hours

Every day, 6 am to 10 pm.

Add the pool's cleaning days and the days a tournament takes the courts as closed days or special hours. Bookings already made on a day you close are listed so you can cancel or keep each one, and nobody can take a place while you are closed.

  • TV display

The token being called and the court or lane to go to.

In the lobby between the courts and the pool entrance, where players change shoes and wait.

  • QR poster

At the entrance and on the reception counter, so a walk-in player takes a place for the next free court and a member can book the evening's hour.

Tips

  • Make each court and lane a desk.

A court is a desk with nobody attached to it, and such shared desks count towards bookings: four badminton courts take four bookings for the same hour. Squash and badminton are separate lines, so a squash booking never holds a badminton court.

    How it works →
  • A doubles four is booked in one person's name.

A booking is for one person, so one player books the court for the four of them, for today or the next six days. A booking can be up to 12 hours, as long as it fits in the day's opening hours.

    How it works →
  • Check players in at reception.

A booking joins the line only once it is checked in: the player presses I am here on their phone, or reception checks them in on the Waitlist. Reception and the court attendant both have the Front desk ability, so either can check a player in, add a walk-in, or move someone up or down the line.

    How it works →
  • Run every court from the reception tablet.

Nobody stands at a court calling names. Reception, with the Run desks ability, presses Run desk beside the court under Desks you run on the Waitlist, and Call next when it comes free, and the player's page says which court. Keep that tab open: a desk started there goes off shift when the tab is closed.

    How it works →
  • Let walk-ins fill the gaps.

Walk-in players take a place in the same line as the bookings. When a court comes free, Call next takes whoever is next, and a booked player who has checked in is placed by their booked time.
