For customers
Your account, language and privacy
For customers. You do not need an account to look around, but one keeps your visits together on any phone. This page explains signing in, everything on your Account screen, and what the places you visit can and cannot see.
Do you need an account?#
Not to look. You can browse places, open a place's page, see its lines, services and free booking times, and read your notifications for a visit you are following, all without signing in.
Yes, to hold a place. You sign in when you join a line or book a time from your own phone. Your account is simply your phone number: there is no password to remember, and your name and email are optional.
Line Me Up is free for you. Customers never pay Line Me Up, and Line Me Up holds no card or payment details for you.
Line Me Up is a web app. It opens in your phone's browser from a link, a poster or a QR code; there is nothing to download from an app store. You can add it to your Home Screen if you like (see below).
Find your way around: the three tabs#
Along the bottom of the screen are three tabs, on every screen:
- Explore: find a place, by name, by kind or near you.
- Visits: everywhere you are waiting, everything you have booked, and your past visits.
- Account: who is signed in, your details, your language, and signing out.
Along the top is a slim bar with:
- the Line Me Up name, which takes you back to Explore;
- a bell, which opens your Notifications. A number on it shows how many you have not read yet;
- Sign in if nobody is signed in on this phone, or a round button with the first letter of your name (or a person outline, if you gave no name) if you are. Tap it to open your Account.
Sign in with your phone number#
You can start from Sign in at the top of any screen, from the Sign in button on the Visits or Account tab, or simply by pressing Join or Book on a place's page, which asks you to sign in first and brings you back afterwards.
To sign in:
-
On Your phone number, type your number in Phone number. If
your number is not an Indian (+91) number, start it with your country code, for example
+44. - Press Send me a code.
- The screen changes to Enter the code we sent you. and shows the number it was sent for. Type the 6 digits in 6-digit code.
- If you like, add Your name (optional), so staff know who to call. Use 2 to 60 characters.
- Press Continue. You go back to where you were, signed in.
See your visits#
The Visits tab, headed Your visits, lists every place you are waiting and every booking you have made while signed in. It updates by itself while it is open. It is the way back to your place if you lose the link.
- Upcoming holds where you are waiting now and the bookings ahead of you, grouped by place. Each shows the line, your token, a word for where it stands (such as Waiting or Booked), how many people are ahead of you or when you are expected, and the buttons that apply: I am here, Running late and Give up my place.
- Past holds visits that have ended, newest first. A visit that ended today says so, for example Served 11:20 today; older ones say when, such as "yesterday". Press Show more at the foot to see older ones.
- Tap a place's name to open its page again, for example to book your next visit.
If you are not waiting anywhere and have nothing booked, the tab says Nothing in a line. Once you join or book, it shows up there.
How to check in, run late or cancel from this tab is explained in Booking a visit and Waiting, your ticket and alerts.
A visit the desk made for you#
When staff add you at the counter, they hand you a link or a slip for your visit. That visit does not appear in your Visits tab by itself. Two ways to keep it there:
- Open the link while signed in and press Save this visit to my visits. It then says Saved to your visits.
- If the desk entered your phone number, your Visits tab may ask, for example, Green Leaf Salon added a visit for this number today. Is this you? Press Yes, it's me to add it, or No if it is not yours.
Change your name or add an email#
The Account tab, headed Your account, starts with Signed in as and your phone number in large type, then your name if you gave one. Below that is Your details.
To change your details:
- Open the Account tab.
- Under Your details, change Name, or type an address in Email (optional).
- Press Save. You see Saved. when it is done.
Choose your language#
Line Me Up speaks eight languages: English, മലയാളം (Malayalam), हिन्दी (Hindi), தமிழ் (Tamil), Español (Spanish), 日本語 (Japanese), 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese) and 繁體中文 (Traditional Chinese). Each is listed in its own writing, so you can find yours even if you cannot read the screen you are on. Unless you choose, Line Me Up follows your phone's language.
When you are signed in#
To choose your language:
- Open the Account tab.
- In Language, choose your language from the list.
- The app reloads in that language.
Your choice is saved to your account, so every phone you sign in on uses it. Choose Same as this phone to go back to following the phone's own language.
Before you sign in#
The Explore tab and the sign-in screen each have a Language switch. Choose a language there and the app redraws in it straight away. This choice is kept on this phone.
Read your notifications#
The bell at the top of the screen opens Notifications: one list of updates about your visits, newest first. It holds things like:
- a heads-up that only a few people are ahead of you;
- that the desk has called you, and where to go;
- that the next step of your visit is ready, on a visit with several steps;
- that the desk serving your line is on a break or running behind;
- reminders before a booking, the evening before and an hour before;
- a booking the place had to cancel, with a way to book another time.
To use the inbox:
- Tap the bell. Items you have not read are in bold.
- Tap an item to open the visit it is about. Opening it marks it read.
- Press Mark all as read to clear the count on the bell.
- Press Show more at the foot for older items.
Add Line Me Up to your Home Screen#
Added to your Home Screen, Line Me Up opens full screen like an app, and remembers your visits. You never have to; everything works in the browser too. Line Me Up does not ask when you first arrive. It may offer once a visit has ended, with Next time, open Line Me Up from your home screen — it remembers your visits.
On an Android phone:
- When the card appears, press Add it.
- Confirm in your browser's own box. You see Done. Line Me Up is on your Home Screen.
You can also add it at any time from your browser's menu, using its Add to Home Screen or Install option.
On an iPhone, in Safari:
- When the card appears, press Add it to see three steps. Or follow them yourself:
- Tap Share at the bottom of Safari.
- Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.
- Open Line Me Up from your Home Screen from now on.
Sign out#
There are two ways to sign out, both on the Account tab:
- Sign out signs you out of this phone only. Use it on a shared or borrowed phone, so the next person cannot see your visits.
- Sign out on every device signs you out everywhere you are signed in, at once. Use it if you signed in on a phone you no longer have with you, such as one at a counter.
To sign out:
- Open the Account tab.
- Press Sign out, or Sign out on every device.
- You are taken back to Explore, signed out.
Signing out does not cancel anything. Your places and bookings stay, and you see them again when you sign back in with the same number.
Delete your account#
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from the Account tab. It takes two presses on purpose, so it cannot happen by accident.
To delete your account:
- Open the Account tab and scroll to Delete your account.
- Press Delete my account. The card explains what will happen.
- Press Yes, delete my account to go ahead, or Keep my account to stop.
- You are signed out everywhere and taken back to Explore.
What deleting removes, and what it keeps#
The screen says it plainly, and this is exactly what happens:
- Removed: your name, your phone number and your email, from your account and from every visit you made. Any note the desk wrote about you on those visits goes too. Every phone you were signed in on is signed out.
- Kept, without your name: the visits themselves. A place you visited keeps a record that it served somebody at that time, on that line, because it needs to account for its own day. That record no longer names you or has your number.
- A fresh start: if you sign in again with the same number, you start a new, empty account. Your old visits do not come back.
What a place can and cannot see#
Line Me Up asks for as little as it can. You give a phone number; your name and email are up to you. It never asks for your address, your date of birth, your ID, or why you are visiting.
The place you visit sees#
- your name, if you gave one, and your phone number;
- the services you chose, your token and your place in their line;
- anything their own desk recorded, such as their file number for you or a note;
- the history of your visits with them.
A place may connect its own systems to Line Me Up, such as its clinic software. If it does, those systems receive your name, phone number and visit details too, under that place's own privacy policy.
Nobody else sees#
- Other places see nothing about your visits elsewhere, not even that you went.
- Other customers see nothing about you. When your screen says how many people are ahead of you, it is only a number: no names or numbers of other people ever reach your phone, and yours never reach theirs.
- Your location: when you use Near me, your position is rounded to about 110 metres to find nearby places and is not stored.
The full details, and your rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, are in the privacy policy.
Which version you are using#
At the foot of the Account tab is a small version line. Tap it to open What's new: a plain list of recent changes, newest first. It works signed in or not.
